Half-term reset: a fresh wellbeing plan for November

The academic year is now in full swing. New classes have settled in, routines are taking shape and the first busy weeks of term have flown by. Half term gives us all a welcome chance to pause, take a breath and reset.
As you enjoy a well-earned break, it can also be a good moment to ask: what would help us return in November with a better plan for keeping track of children’s mental health and wellbeing?
A fresh start does not have to mean a big change
Teachers already notice so much: the child who seems quieter than usual, the pupil finding friendships tricky, or the class that needs a little more reassurance. But in a busy school day, it can be difficult to see whether those moments are part of a wider pattern.
A simple, regular check-in can give children another way to say how they are feeling. It can also help staff notice changes over time and decide who might benefit from a conversation. SchoolBudi supports that everyday picture of wellbeing; it does not diagnose mental health conditions or replace professional judgement, safeguarding procedures or specialist support.
Why half term is a good time to set up something new
You do not need to spend your holiday working. If you have a little space before pupils return, though, half term can be a useful opportunity to put a small plan in place without the usual rush of the school day.
Starting in November gives you a clear point to introduce a new routine. Rather than adding something complicated, think about a short check-in that fits naturally into the school day and a regular moment for staff to look at what children are sharing.
A simple plan for your November return
- Choose where to begin. Start with a class or a manageable group, and decide which member of staff will lead the routine.
- Get your SchoolBudi account ready. Set up your school, add your classes and pupils, and make sure the teachers involved can sign in. Our How-To guides take you through the steps.
- Pick a consistent check-in time. Choose a point in the day that works for your class, so checking in becomes familiar rather than another thing to remember.
- Introduce it gently. Explain that feelings can change, there is no right or wrong answer, and the check-in helps adults understand when someone may need support.
- Make time to look back. Review the check-ins regularly, notice patterns and follow up with children where needed. Use your school’s usual safeguarding procedures whenever there is a concern.
- Review what works. After the first couple of weeks, reflect with colleagues on whether the routine is manageable and how it is helping you respond.
Plenty of time to try it
We know that introducing something new takes time, especially around a school holiday. Every school gets a 14-day free trial as standard, giving you time to get set up and see how check-ins fit into your school’s routine — no card needed.
If you need a little longer, just email hello@schoolbudi.co.uk and we will happily extend your trial.
Return with a clearer picture
November can be a fresh starting point: a simple routine, a little more space for children to share how they feel, and a clearer picture for the adults supporting them.
Ready to begin? Start your school’s free trial, or read our step-by-step guide to making the most of your trial. If you would like to talk it through first, book a SchoolBudi discovery call or contact us at hello@schoolbudi.co.uk.
Wishing you a restful half term and a positive start to November.
